The Hitchin'
Post is a Sole Proprietorship founded in 1984 by owner, artists, Ellen and
Bob Chandler. We have been making handcrafted Deerskin Leather Products
since 1995. In the fall, we buy raw Whitetale Deer hides from local hunters,
which we take to a tannery in Gloversville, NY for tanning. Special care is
taken in selecting only the softest and most supple deerskins, tanned in the
U.S., for our moccasins, handbags, wallets and accessories. Each item is
painstakingly created step by step, from the cutting to the hand lacing and
lasting of each moccasin. We also create custom made coats, vests and capes,
using either our hides or those belonging to our customers themselves.

friends and neighbors, who volunteer to help with all of the
little things as we need them, such as packaging items for
shipping, putting price tags on products, hand cutting,
stuffing and stamping envelopes for mailing letters to
customers, loading the trailer and anything else that needs
to be done. |
